The wonders of essential oils in
aromatherapy
History tells that even
before the dawn of modern civilization, essential oils have
been derived and used to heal, relax, and restore people. In
fact, the first civilizations from Egypt are believed to have
administered the use of these essential oils in their everyday
lives. But due to the discovery of modern healing in the
medical field this practice through the use of scents has
slowly disappeared.
But, with the trend of going back to basics in the fitness
world, healing through essential oils has regained its place.
Blended with the term "aromatherapy," essential oils now play
an important role in holistic therapy not only the body but the
mind and emotions as well. In fact, essential oils are believed
to be present in almost all aromatic products like essence
oils, absolutes, resinoids, and concretes.
Why essential oils are important in
aromatherapy
Basically, aromatherapy involves the use of pure essential
and absolute oils that are derived from different plants
gathered across the globe. These oils are known to have varying
degrees of fragrance, complexity, and volatility are and each
type is believed to emulsify and contain a certain aromatic
energy.
Today, one of the latest trends in terms of aromatherapy
healing is the utilization of highly and carefully selected
fragrant substances called "essential oils." These oils are now
being integrated to aromatherapy by combining them with lotions
and other inhalants so as to promote health by affecting a
person's mood.
Usually administered through massages, the use of essential
oils in aromatherapy has become quite popular in almost all
parts of the world. This is because people believe that the
therapeutic properties of essential oils will be absorbed
directly by the person's blood stream through his or her
skin.
Aside from using essential oils in aromatherapy through
massage, they are also used in other forms such as hot and cold
compress or mixed with lukewarm water in baths. One of the most
creative ways of using essential oils in aromatherapy is
through inhaling. Here, specially designed diffusers are being
used which enable essential oils to condense into thin air and
inhaled directly by the person to calm his or her senses.
Aside from numerous spas and fitness centers, essential oils
through aromatherapy are now also being adapted by hospitals
and other health care establishments. This is because even the
people in the medical field are somehow convinced that these
oils can greatly help relieve stress and depression among
patients. In most cases, aromatherapy through the use of
essential oils even helps patients to tolerate or control the
pain they feel brought on by medication or medical operations.
Apart from taking advantage of its soothing and therapeutic
properties, aromatherapy, through the use of essential oils,
are also being used to treat various skin problems while
reducing the effects of the specific disease.
