Discovering Magnet Therapy

Magnet therapy is considered an alternative kind of medicine or healing. With the use of magnets, it is possible to restore energy to the body, improve sleep, relieve pain and even, stress in a natural way. There are several cases where magnet therapy was able to prevent and treat chronic sicknesses.

How did it all start?

Early civilizations, apparently, were already using magnetic therapy. The first use of magnets was traced in the place called Magnesia, during 2500 to 3000 BC. The Chinese have been using this kind of healing as early as 2000 years ago. Magnetic healing in Chinese medicine where used along with reflexology and acupuncture. Historical records from Egpyt, India and Greece also showed the use of magnets in healing.

Although used in alternative healing, it was until 1600s when a Swish physician Paracelsus acknowledged the used of his magnets for therapy. It was followed by another doctor named Dr. William Gilbert who studied the use of electricity and magnetism. Michael Faraday’s discoveries in magnetic healing during the 18th century are still used as frameworks or guide for today’s magnetic treatment. It was 1800s when magnet therapy and treatment made a comeback as alternative medicine.

The use of magnet therapy continues to be subject of medical research for the last 15 years. In fact, there are about 57 studies/researches in the United States focusing on magnetic treatment. An example would be the study conducted in University of Exeter and Plymouth in 2004 about the use of magnetic bracelets in easing pains of those suffering from osteoarthritis.

Now, magnet therapy is performed in different countries. It has gained popularity in Japan, Australia, Russia and European countries like Germany. There are health care practitioners who would recommend this kind of treatment for their patients

But what happens in a magnetic therapy?

Small static magnets are placed in different points or locations of the body. The magnetic field generating from the magnetic could help in healing or speeding up the process. Magnets are said to improve blood circulation, hasten bone repair, and reduce inflammation. They could be used in treating muscle and joint pain.

There are also people who testified on the effectiveness of the magnets on reducing the occurrence of headaches, improve sleeping habits and reduce the risks of diabetes, high blood pressure and pneumonia.

Bracelets are not only one used in magnet therapy. You could also use necklaces, rings, straps, mattresses or pillows. The magnetic product that you will be using would be based on the area of the body you would like apply the treatment.

Although there have been no problems about magnetic therapy in the past, it is still to be cautious. There are some magnetic products that would often warn their customers of their use and ask them to consult their doctors, especially those with pacemakers, working with high-voltage equipment and allergic to metals.

If there are people who intently believed and experienced magnetic treatment, then there would also be people who remains to be skeptical of the treatment. The World Health Organization stated that magnets used in magnet therapy are safe. Whether it is for primary or to supplement current treatment methods, getting an advice from your primary health professional is important.
