Emergency Ring Removal and The Titanium Ring Myth

Accidents do and will happen. If you work with heavy machinery, construction, or risky physical activity such as rock climbing it is recommended that you remove jewelry whether it is titanium or any other metal.

Rings can be a very dicey situation if your finger is injured. The best thing to do is lubricate the area around the ring and remove it before the swelling starts. If already swelled try ice and elevation, then lubricate and try removing again. The next step is having a medical professional remove it with a saw.

It is a myth that Titanium rings can not be cut from the finger if necessary. This has stalled some sales to jewelers who sell titanium rings, but it is nothing more that a rumor. The saws used by hospitals remove titanium rings regularly, and with no more trouble than a traditional silver or gold ring.

It is entirely possible to cut through titanium rings with a regular dremel and a cutting wheel. Though you should never attempt this yourself. If you have a swollen finger and it is making impossible to remove your ring you need to seek emergency medical treatment. This can be a serious problem as people have lost thier fingers this way.

If you just simply outgrow your ring you should go and see your jeweler. They usually have some very ingenious ways to remove the ring. I have even seen a jeweler cut a ring off of someones finger nut that is very rare. Oh and by the way it was titanium. Insurance liability makes this a very rare case indeed.

Never try to cut a ring off at home. Too many people have been severely injured doing this. Most injuries occur because the person attempts to use some sort of wire cutter and ends up with a trip to the hospital. Let professionals do this kind of work.

Very interesting post. This is to remind people about misconceptions about titanium ring and that it is not true. We should not be ignorant about these things.
